We have this adorable little polar bear figuring that I love. He’s adorable, he’s sturdy and I’m pretty sure we have him because we found him abandoned in a playground once. He was the inspiration behind making our Arctic Animals Sensory Bin.

But once I went to put together the bin? I couldn’t find him! Luckily I had a stash of other animals who live in the arctic to add into it.

I SAID BRR, IT’S COLD IN HERE

There were a few directions I could go with the base materials for this sensory bin and in the end I went with edible.   To be fair in my head I also pictured it being these big, luxurious snow mountains made out of frozen whipped cream. Instead got a barely covered base that needed to be pumped up with icing sugar because I severely underestimated how much whipped cream comes in a can…

As a fun bonus, I added some fish shaped ice cubes as well. I have a collection of Ikea Plastis ice cube trays from a summer clearance sale and one of them is fish! They’re okay ice cube trays, but I always find the cubes come out really funny. Out of a whole tray, only a few came out as proper fish.

Oh, and how did I deal with severely underestimating the whipped cream? I got lucky and did this on a day it had snowed, so I added a pile of fresh snow to the bin!

IN FEBRUARY AIR

I will admit – I didn’t plan this one far in advance so I wasn’t full of arctic facts to teach them as they played. But this is one of the few sensory bins that they quietly concentrated on together. The Jello made it smell great, they loved moving the animals around and testing which tong or scoop worked best on each base material was great!
